Transferring Ownership of a Google Doc

Inside Google Drive, users have the ability to share documents with other users, but did you know you also have the ability to transfer ownership of a document.  There are several reasons you might want to do this:

  • To pass off a document to the lead project manager.
  • If a teacher or employee is leaving the district and needs to transfer files to the new teacher.
  • If one person created a document for another user and needs to give ownership to the new user.

Whatever the case may be, transferring ownership can be done.  There are a few limitations though.  If you are a FREE Gmail/Google Docs user, you can transfer ownership of files to anyone with a valid email address.  However, if you are a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) user, you can only transer ownership to a user that is in the same domain or district.
